In the desert of southern Peru, giant figures are drawn into the ground: a hummingbird, a monkey, a spider, lines stretching for kilometres. They were made more than 1,500 years ago, and are best understood from the sky.
The site has remained a mystery to researchers. It has been studied and protected for decades, notably thanks to the work of researcher Maria Reiche, who devoted a large part of her life to it.
